Every dog is capable of learning a great deal more than generally recognised. Although may take a special type of dog and a special type of owner to create a cannie film star, home helper or agility champion, there is no reason why every dog should not achieve the essential basics of obedience and well socialized behaviour. A well trained dog is less likely develop unwanted behaviour patternds, partly because dogs often adopt bad habits when they are bored. Dogs enjoy stimulation of training and most love to please their owners too.
To train our dog, first we have to understand our dog ancestry, biology and psychology. We need to see situations from the dog’s point of view. Dogs have a very close relationships with humans, and by selectively breeding them, we have shaped their behaviour to suit us. Dogs still owe much of thier character and behaviour to their wolf ancestors.
